I. General
How do I invite my friends to join DatR.ws?
To invite your friends to join DatR.ws, click on the "Tell a Friend"
option from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. Just enter your friend's email and name and they'll be using DatR in no
time! What are you waiting for? ...start inviting your friends now!
Some of the links do not appear to work when clicked on. What's happening?
Some features of this site require Javascript to function. If you've noticed that some of the links do not appear to do
anything when you click on them, make sure that your browser has javascript enabled. If this doesn't solve the problem,
please notify us by clicking the "Support"
link and describing the problem.
II. Uploading/Downloading
How do I upload a file?
Uploading a file is a simple and easy process, that will be very familiar to you.
First, choose a group or the main window (by clicking show my files on the tool bar)
to upload a file to. Next, there will be a link in the main viewing window called
"Add Files." Once you've clicked that link, you will be able to press the
browse button and choose which file you'd like to upload.
Lastly, choose where you want the file to go.
NOTE: You can't have a file of the same name in the same folder. If you want
to override your file, just click the override button at the bottom of the upload window.
Where did my files go after I uploaded them?
If you just uploaded a file and don't see it on the main page, try refreshing your
browser. The files should then appear in the order you sorted them. If again you
can't find them check the upload window for the location of your uploaded files.
Can I upload more than one file at once?
Yes, you may upload as many files as you want, up to 250MB at a time for
free accounts or 1.5GB for paid. To do so, click the "Add Files" link to
trigger the upload window. Then click the "Browse" button to locate the files
you want to upload on your computer.
Where are the files I uploaded to a group?
If you've uploaded files to a group and now it seems as though they've disappeared, don't worry! Unlike the past where all of
your files were both in your own user space and in your groups, things have become easier for you. Now, All your files are actually
located in that group! So, you will need to click on the group you uploaded your files to in the "Show All Groups" page.
Once you've done this, there should be a listing of files. Your files should all be right there. Make sure they're not hiding
on the next page though!
Can I download more than one file at once?
The ability to download multiple files at once is not available at this time. We are
working hard to bring this functionality to DatR as soon as possible!
How can I upload to a specific folder?
To upload to a specific folder, first select the file you wish to upload. Then, using the
list of folders found immediately to the right, select the folder you wish the file to
be stored in.
How can I upload to a specific group?
To upload to a specific group, first select the group you wish to upload to from the "Show All Groups"
page. Now that you can see all your group's files click the "Add Files" link. This will trigger the
upload window and allow you to upload all your files to your groups,
just like you would in your regular user space!
How do I download a file?
There are two ways to download a file on DatR. The first method is to simply click
on the file name that you wish to download. You may also download a file by clicking the
icon. In both cases, a dialog box will appear and the download
process begins.
III. File Handling
Is there any way I can sort my files?
There are a number of different options for sorting your files on DatR including
name, file size, or the time the file was uploaded. To perform these various sorts, just look for
the text that says "Sort Files By:" and you will see the available choices.
How do I view only specific types of files?
There are a number of different options for finding specific types of files. First, you can
try to sort your files, but perhaps an easier solution is to filter your files by type. In your main
file space there is a grey bar running above your files. Choose the type of filter you wish to
apply, with the "Filter List" tab and only that type of file will be displayed.
Is there any way I can see all my files and folders at once?
There is a very simple way to see all your files and folders at once. When in your main file
viewing window, click the "Tree" button at the top right hand corner of your screen, and all of your files will
now show up in collapsable folders allowing you to quickly search through multiple folders in
your user space.
Can I change the number of files displayed at a time?
You certainly can! To change the number of files that are displayed at a time, you should see a small box
in the lower right of the screen that says "Files Displayed" and has a number next to it. You may choose
between having 15, 30, 50, or 100 files displayed at a time.
What if I have more files than the number currently being displayed?
Have no fear! Your files will be organized into "pages" so you may easily browse your files. When this
happens, you will see that numbers appear at the bottom of the file list. These numbers represent the
"pages" mentioned above. For example, if you have opted to have 15 files displayed at a time and you have
23 files altogether, files 1-15 will be shown on page 1, and files 16-23 will appear on page 2.
To navigate through the various pages, just click on the number of the page you'd like to "jump" to. You
can also cycle through the pages sequentially be clicking "Next >>" or "<< Prev".
How do I delete files?
To delete a file, utilize the icon under the options column.
Alternatively, you may check the file (or files) you wish to delete and then press the
"Delete" button.
How do I create a new folder?
You can create a new folder either by clicking the "New Folder" option from the lefthand menu, or
by selecting the text that says [new folder] near the top of the page.
How do I move files into folders after I've uploaded them?
To move a file (or multiple files) into a folder, first check the file (or files) you wish to move.
Then at the bottom of the list of files you will find a button that reads "Move". Click this button
and you will be taken to a page where you can select which folder you would like to move the files.
Can I rename my files once I've uploaded them?
You may rename your files by clicking the icon to display the
"File Information" window. See the question below for more information.
Is there a way to add comments to the files I've uploaded?
Yes, you may add comments to files by clicking the icon. This will bring up
a box where you may either rename, add comments to, or download the file. Just modify the information
accordingly and click the "Save Changes" button.
IV. Groups
How do I create a group?
The sidebar on the left of the screen will have
a link, called "Create a Group" under the groups subtitle. Click this menu option
and a form will be displayed which allows you to create a group. Just type in a unique
name and a description for the group and the group will be created.
How do I delete a group?
In order to delete a group, you must own it. If you are the group owner, there are
two ways to delete a group. The first way is to navigate to the "Show All Groups" page and
click the icon for the particular group you wish to delete.
You may also delete a group directly from the page that displays the group's files by clicking
the "Delete Group" option at the top of the page. Again, you must be the group owner to
achieve this.
How can I see which groups I am currently a member of?
To see which groups you are affiliated with, click the "Show All Groups" link from the navigation menu
on the left. This page will list all the groups you are a member of as well as any invitations to other
groups. For each group you are presented with the group name, group description, and actions to perform
on that group (such as adding a member, viewing all group members, etc).
How can I find out who is in a particular group?
To list all group members of a particular group, first click the "Show All Groups" option from the menu
on the left. Then click on the icon to view a list of all members of a certain
group. The list may also be accessed when viewing a group's files by clicking the "Show Group Members" link
at the top of the page. This list provides the username of the group member along with the user's name and
options. Note that some options (such as remove member) are only available to the group owner.
How can I add my friends to a group?
To add a friend to your group, first click on the group you wish to add a friend to
in the main groups page. Next, click the "Add a Member" link and complete the form.
Your friend will receive a confirmation to join your group immediately.
Please note that you must be the group owner in order to invite other members into the group.
How can I join a group?
Once you've been invited to a group, you should see the invitation appear at the top of the
"Show All Groups" page. You then have the option of accepting the invitation by clicking the
icon or declining the invitation by using the icon.
How can I leave a group?
The easiest way to leave a group is accomplished by first clicking the "Show All Groups" option from the navigation
menu on the left. Then click the icon for the particular group you would like
to leave. Note that if you own a group, you only have the option of deleting the group.
How can I share files amongst my friends?
To share photos and other important files with your friends, make sure that the friends you wish to share your files
with are in a group with you. If not, start a new group and invite them all to join! To make your files available, just
upload them to the group and all group members will be able to access them.
How can I share files with a group?
To share photos and other important files with a group of your friends, decide what files you would like to share and with
which group you'd like to share the files with. Next click the checkbox to the left side of the files you want to share.
NOTE: Folders can not be shared at this time. Once you have selected all the files you want to share, use the pull down tab
at the bottom of task bar next to the "Copy To" button to select the group you would like to share files with. Once you
have selected the group, press the "Copy To" Button and your friends will now be able to download all of those files too!
How can I limit what my group can do?
DatR allows it's users to have full control over the groups and give you the ability to tailor groups to
your specific needs. If you own a group, you can go to that group's settings by clicking on that group in the
"Show All Groups" page, and then choosing from the top tool
bar. There, you will have a plethora of options that you can set for your specific group needs.
V. Account Settings
How can I host my pictures on DatR?
Hosting pictures is simple. All you need to do is upload a picture to your space, or click on the
picture already in your space and click the "Make Public" button at the bottom of the file listing. Follow
by clicking on the "Public Files" Link on the main navigation bar. Lastly, click the
button next to the file you wish to host and copy the link provided into
the site you want to host it on!
How can I get all or some of my public files on my website?
You are allowed to host multiple files on your website or MySpace by creating a table in the public files
of your DatR account. To do this, click on the "Public Files" Link on the main navigation bar.
Then click on the files you wish to make into a public table, and click the "Create Table" button
at the bottom of the file listing. Don't forget to copy the code provided and place it into your website!
What types of files can I host on DatR?
There is no limit on what types files you can host on DatR. However, as always, distributing copyrighted
material is illegal and can be prosecuted under the fullest extent the law allows.
VI. Account Settings
How can I change my contact information?
You can change your contact information at any time by clicking the "Settings"
option from the main menu.
How do I change my password?
To change your password, navigate to the "Settings"
section of the site. Scroll down to the
"Change my Password" section towards the bottom of the page and type in your new password!
I've used up all of my 5GB. How can I get more storage space?
To get more space on DatR, click the "Add Storage" option from the main menu and you will
be presented with a list of all packages currently available to you. You may choose to pay for
your additional storage with a one-time annual fee, or opt to get billed on a monthly basis. We will
then request credit/debit card information from you over a secure SSL connection. Once you successfully
complete this form, you will see that your account is instantly reflected. Should you need more space than
the current package offerings, please contact us
and we be glad to accomodate your needs.
If I purchase additional storage space and decide later that I do not need it, what can I do?
If you should ever decide that you no longer wish to have the additional storage
you selected, send an e-mail to support@datr.ws
and our staff will be glad to assist you.
How do I delete my account?
If you really want to pass up on 5GB of free online storage, you can do so by clicking the
"Settings"
option on the menu found on the left of the screen. From there, browse
to the bottom of the page and you will see a section titled "Remove Account". Follow the
instructions and your account will be deleted. Keep in mind that any files you are sharing
with a group will no longer be accessible to the members in that group and any groups that
you own with be removed altogether. After deleting your account, you can always sign up again
to enjoy the services DatR offers.
